Have to reset oil burner

Have been experiencing trouble with furnace. Heats up and then goes off and must push reset button to reset. Still was not getting house up to temp until turned taco control valve power head from auto to manual. Now heat circulates though house but still trips reset button. This all started when furnace was fired up after ran out of oil. Have changed filter and nozzle and bleed system several times. Also cleaned pipe to chimney which was very filled! The first time After oil delivered and system bleed smoke came out and that was when we discovered how dirty pipe and furnace were.

Is there something that was set off by this problem that we are missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just had back surgery and do not have the money right now to pay large repair bill unless absolutely necessary. Please help.
Have read about the thermal cutoff switch. Could this be the problem? Why is there a valve on it. When we turn the valve it shuts furnace off.

Usually best to start a new thread for a new problem.

You said this tripping-off started after you ran out of oil, then bled and restarted ? Or, when you restarted, and got that smoke (then cleaned and changed nozzles etc).. and *then* the problem started ? Did the furnace run fine until you shut it down to investigate the smoke ?
