Bryant Bolier model 234-3PW

My girlfriend has a Bryant boiler system, model 234-3PW, series C. She uses it for 1 zone raidant baseboard heating on the first floor of her home. It is an old unit and I suspect that the circulation pump has gone bad. The breaker keeps tripping. The pump is leaking. I have been trying to find out where I can get parts for this unit so we can replace the pump and fix the leak. I had a furnace guy come out, who was an authorized Bryant rep, he just said it was the aquastat, but really didn't check anything with a meter, he just went by the click that occured in the aquastat/relay/transformer area. He just said the unit was so old I should replace it because he couldn't find parts. I know the unit is old, circa, 1970, but she is going to sell the house soon and if we can get by with fixing the unit, that is what she wants to do. Does anyone know if aftermarket parts can be bought for this unit, and if so, where? I called Bryant and they were not really helpful, other than sending me a copy of the manual, but it does not list part numbers or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you'd like to post some pictures of the system and stuff, it would help with any suggestions we could give... personally, if it ain't leakin', I would say it can be fixed... even if you had to do a little retro-fitting...

When does the breaker trip? and just to be sure we're all on the same page, are you talking about tripping the circuit breaker in the main panel?

Bryant Boiler

Thanks for your reply. I am happy to say that I ended up figuring out what the problem was. The circulating pump motor had a short in it. For anyone who has this type of unit, the circulating pump, for my model anyway, can be purchaed at Home Depot for under $200. Replacing the pump was rather simple, after figuring out how to connect it electrically. I had to use a multi-meter to determine which wire coming from the unit was the "hot" wire when the thermostat gave the signal for the unit to turn on.

The only other problem I had was that I was airlocked and couldn't get the water to flow through the boiler unit. It was flowing through the radiators direct from city water. There is an air purge on the supply line/expansion tank that was bad. Got the bleeder from Home Depot for $8. Once I replaced that and got flow going through the pipes and boiler all I had to due was to purge the air from the baseboard radiators and I was home free.

Just to think, the plumber I had come out to initially look at the system, flat out told me that it needed to be replaced, because he could not find the parts. It was through this forum that I became more knowledgeable and was able to do the repair myself for a few hundred bucks instead of relacing the unit like the plumber told me I pretty much had to do.

To all those who have posted...Thanks.
