No heat with burner lockout help
Ok so when I came home the house temp was at 61. Go check the boiler and the burner was locked out - little red light grinning at me!! I hit the reset button and the burner fired for about 30-40 sec and locked out again. I have a service contract but a service tech will not get here until tomorrow sometime. Is there anything I can check to try and get this thing back up and running?

John, is there a 'porthole' that you can view the flame? If so, is it nice and bright and yellowy before it locks out? or is it lazy and orangey?
Did you happen to notice if there was any smoke or soot from the chimney?
It's possible that you have a CAD CELL problem and it's not sensing the flame and locking out.
If you cut the power to the system, you can remove the two screws (or loosen them and move the clips aside) and rotate the transformer back on it's hinge to inspect the cad cell. Wipe it's face clean, make sure it's seated in it's socket...

Tropper, sorry I was just about to edit the burner info. Yes it is a AFG.
The flame yellow and isn't lazy. Didn't notice any smoke.
With the burner in lock out the relay on the aquastat is closed (engaged), is that normal?
I'm off to check the cad cell

The 8184 is _after_ that... and will shut down only the burner if it locks out. The rest of the system, i.e. the circulator, will still be active.
I believe the cad cell is a C554 and you can often find them at HD or Lowe's if they have a well stocked heating section.
They can be checked with an ohmmeter if you have one.
If all looks OK on the cell, and you have an inspection mirror, see if you can look down the tube at the back of the burner head. There could be carbon built up on the head and blocking the 'view' of the flame from the cell.

Tropper, you da man!!! I flipped that cover and the cad cell was not fully seated!!! When seated it was real loose, too!! I had to spread the legs on the cad cell, reseated it and hit the reset button and it has been running since with no lock out!!! Its starting to warm up!!

I would like to see less than 400 ohms... with a bright flashlight shining on it. I like to pull them out and measure out of circuit. Dark should be over 5000 ... (higher better).
If the socket is all loose and messed up, you might wanna pick one up and replace it...

Oh yeah... over $80 grand a bottle... but it ain't real... it was a 'troll'... I watch too much TV. In real life, I'll 'settle' for a couple shots of purple sack.
The newer Honeywell 7184 series of controls have a built in cad cell ohmmeter... uses the LED flashes. 1,2,3,4 flashes tell you the range of resistance that the CAD cell is reporting to the control. Without looking I don't recall the exact 'breakpoints' that they use, but 1 flash is less than 400, and concurring with heatpro, 4 flashes tops out around 1600 ohms or so... more than 4 flashes and the control is locked out.
