System upgrades and voltage question

I have added zone valves to an older system that had been running with flow controllers. The pump relays for those zones have a 12 VAC output on the low voltage side, but the zone valves operate on 24 VAC. Is there a problem with adding a transformer after the controller and stepping that 12 up to 24, or do I have to replace the two controllers?

I was checking with a friend of mine earlier today, and he drew out the diagram of the relay. In doing so, the answer to my questions became clear-it will be better to go ahead and replace the controllers with 24 volt models.
