Burnham ES2 ODR

Well. I just got back from vacation last night so I havn't been able to observe my boiler for the last week. This is what happened this morning:

I woke up about an hour after both zones are programmed to bring the heat up from 65 top 72. Zone 1 was satisfied when I got up. Zone 2 was still calling for heat. I felt the radiator just to see how hot it was and was hotter than I thought. I went down to the boiler to check the set point and it was 169F and about 48F outside.

The high limit on my ODR is set to 155F @ 10F and the low is 120F at 60F. After Zone 2 was satisfied, I had zone 1 call for heat and checked the settings on the boiler. The set point was 128F which is what it should be. I then had zone 2 call for heat again, the set point this time remained at 128F. As I watched, the boiler temp begain to rise with just the circulator running because the water in zone 2 was still hot from the original call. Because of that I decided not to wait for it to fire and turned the thermostat back down.

Why would the ODR set itself higher than the limit of 155F? Up until now it seemed to set itself fine for both zones.

Might have been something with the boost function?

It is set to 0. The DHW was also not calling for heat. Just the second zone when I looked at it.

I would have to guess that the indirect had called before you checked. When you checked zone 2 operation was the boiler running or just zone 2 pump?

The boiler was cycling on and off to maintain the 179F setpoint. Only the zone 2 valve was open. The other two were closed.

I came home tonight and it happened again. Zone 1 was already satisfied and zone 2 was still heating. The set point was 160F and my limit is set at 155F.

The IQ control also has a high limit setting on it. It is currently set to 180F. What if I changed that top 155F? Would that still allow the DHW to go to 180F when it calls for heat? It has it's own setting on the ODR.

Well, turns out I'm a big dummy. I thought the boost was set to 0 and it was not. I was doing some head scratching while going through the settings and saw that it wasn't. I set it to 0 and I think my issue has been solved.

It is nice when things work as they are supposed to.
