Taco Zone Valve 571-2 install
Ok, I know we're called doityourself but..... I need to have 2 zone valves replaced and I am going with the Taco since my other zone has one already. The 2 zones that failed have very out of date Tacos. I need to have the heating system drained and the two new valves sweat installed. I was thinking to try it but I am really concerned I'll have a lot of problems since I don't know anything about draining and re-filling the heating system. My question, what would be a reasonable charge for this from a licensed plumber? I live in RI and this wouldn't be an emergency call as I have wood heat anyway. The system is a forced hot water baseboard setup. Trying to avoid getting ripped off. I already have the new valves, 60 each new.

How out of date are the valves? Are you sure that the powerheads from the new valves won't fit the old ones? It might be as easy as taking the powerhead from the new and slapping it on the old...

I checked with Taco and they do need to be removed, not compatable with any replacement head. Got two quotes, both around $250.00 to do the job and both are heating guys so I'll probably do that. The valves were only $60 each. For this price, I'd feel better with somone who knows how to do it right. But I'll watch :-)
