Help installing a zone valve... PLEASE!!!
Hello,
I am installing a replacement zone valve (White Rodgers 1361-102). Here are the instructions...
http://www.white-rodgers.com/wrdhom/.../0037-5421.pdf
When I opened the box, the valve stem was separated from the valve head... was it supposed to be? I think this may be the problem because it didn't seem that the actuator inside the valve head would physically be able to reach the valve stem. I have the unit installed in my system and I have no thermostat control of the valve... it's stuck open which happens to be the position I installed it in.
This valve stem typically goes from open to closed to open in 180º. I marked the end of the valve stem with a Sharpie marker, reinstalled the valve head, manually rotated the valve head control 180º, removed the valve head and the valve stem had not rotated at all.
Did I get a bad unit? Was my valve stem supposed to be physically connected to my valve head right out of the box?

FYI... I figured out the problem.
I removed the valve head and valve stem from the valve body. After looking more closely at the construction of this device, I realized there is no way it could function properly in it's current state. The valve stem was supposed to be attached to the valve head; it must have become separated during shipping. I disassembled the valve stem and pressed it's shaft into the mechanical valve head manual dial and reassembled. It's working like a dream and I no longer have a 80ºF master bedroom.
Thanks!
