Need info for connecting 2 boilers together

Hi-I'm from northern NY " Brr" and could use some suggestions as to how to connect an oil fired domestic heating boiler together for the purpose of reducing heating oil consumption . Oil fired boiler is Weil Mclein GO5 , The wood fired boiler is my former 30 year old Utica core used as a heat exchanger ,and fired by a mama bear woodstove . Aside from a variety of control issues I tenatively plan on connecting them in series . The output of the wood fired boiler plumbed into the return manifold of the W Mclein and the input of the wood fired boiler being being provided by the output of the W Mclein . Is only a very basic desription of my tenative panned plumbing and not mentioning the various valves ,etc . Boilers are mounted side by side . Would appreciate any advice or comments in regards to this a planned installation . Walt

Both are inside ?

Typically, you would have the return from the system plumb back to the wood boiler return -in.
The wood boiler supply -out, would go to the oil fired boiler return -in, and the supply -out of the oil boiler goes to the system.

This way you can have an aquastat on the oil boiler to only fire it when the wood boiler is not supplying the water temp target>

Things to be very concerned over...
1) make sure your return water temp to the wood boiler is not cold, keep it as hot as possible. Wood likes to condense, and create creosote. It will do this at the drop of a hat.
2) make sure you check the venting often for creosote, of course
3) controls can be as elaborate or as simple as you like, a 2 stage boiler control would work well to control pumps etc, and the firing of the oil burner.
Or a simple single boiler control for ODR, or just an on-off aquastat set at the lowest water temp you want.

Good luck

Thanks for the input . If I understood you correctly : the wood boiler is basically is plumbed in as if it were another heating loop or zone . Is probably the simplest setup ,however I wonder at the degree of efficiency ? Is there an aquastat that will kick in if the wood boiler temp exceeds the hi limit so as to open the zones ,energize the circ and use the heating loops as heat sinks ? Walt
