Circulation pump makes rattling sounds

The circulation pump from my central heating system, which is about 10 years old, started making rattling noises yesterday and it continues. So far it's still working, but does anyone have any idea how much time I've got left? Would it make it until spring or could it break down in the following days?

Want to replace the complete system around May, that's why I'd like to postpone replacement of this part.

If it is the type that needs oiling...have you done that?

If it's a small wet rotor circulator, then it's going to fail.
The cartiridges can usually be replaced, but many find you can buy a new circ for little more.
If it's a larger open motor with coupling type, check if you can add oil and do it fast.

"rattling" ... but not "HAMMERING" ?

Tell us the make/model of the pump.

You might have a coupling failed, or starting to fail.

Finally replaced the thing

Thanks for the answers. I had a close look at the system and saw that it would only take half an hour to replace the pump. So that's what I did, helps me to sleep better at night...
