You could also mount a second aquastat in one of the boiler tappings below the water line and use that same thermostat idea with a relay (like a Taco SR501) to switch between the two a'stats. This option would allow keeping the boiler at least 'warm' (say 120?) and would not take as long to come up to the higher temp setting (say 180), but a little more complicated, and a little more $. Maybe I'll draw some schematics if there's interest ...

Good catch! No, a siphon will not keep the gauge internals dry.

Because he's implying that it's NO GOOD for anything but a paperweight. In other words, JUNK.
