I was looking at the wiring for the L8048 and seems a little different...I don't remember how it was set up before.
L1 Black
L2 White
Circ and burner which colour goes where?

I THINK , but am by no means sure about this...
The WHITE (NEUTRAL) from the LINE, BURNER, and CIRC go on terminal 2 ...
I would not try to put all three wires under one terminal. I would use a 'pigtail' and a wire nut. I think the reason they re-designed the unit was so that each wire had it's own terminal.
BLACK LINE goes to 1
BLACK from circ goes to 4
BLACK from burner goes to 5
I'm hoping that someone older than me has the diagram for this old-timer aquastat.

If you really mean a GROUND, as in the BARE COPPER or GREEN wire, NO! absolutely NOT.
NEVER connect the GROUND and the NEUTRAL (WHITE) TOGETHER.
GROUNDs only go to the CASE, or the CHASSIS... and this is another thing that you probably won't find in the older aquastat... GROUND connections... another reason they redesigned it. If you have to drill a hole in the case to connect the GROUND wires, do so, and attach with a screw and nut.

Do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?
I would advise you to VERIFY the wiring I told you before you hook that up. I am not 100% confident that it is correct.
If you have a meter, I can walk you through how to check it.

It was the right way to wire it. It just fired up and I have the A stat set to 180. The only thing is the thermometer on the boiler is not working, the psi is though staying at about 19 psi, i will get a larger x tank to lower it I think. Other than that its running fine and the circ pump is running after the water hitst 180...Ill keeo you posted, thank you so much NJ!!

Yay! glad to get it right... cuz you coulda had big problems if it was wrong... sparks flying everywhere, etc...
I wouldn't trust the pressure gauge either... but if it really is 19 PSI at 180, that's not bad at all... maybe the tank is OK...
I would first replace the gauge, see what it REALLY is doing... then think about replacing the tank next.
