leak-stop chemical additives

How do you get chemical additives like these into the hydronic system? Can you simply bring the boiler down, let it reach zero psi, drain a gallon of water, and pump the additive in through the drain spigot of the expansion tank using a manual kerosene pump, and then refill? Is that all there would be to it?

I've always drained a gallon or so, removed the relief valve & poured the boiler liquid it there. Note: It does not work well on cold start boilers.
