zone valve orientation

Hi everyone.

I'm replacing an old white rogers zone valve with a taco 571-2.
Due to space limitations I have to install the valve on a horizontal pipe.
The taco documentation shows the power head should be on the top side of the pipe in this application, which won't be easy for me in this location.

Question is,
Will the life of the valve be shortened if I install it with the power head on the side (3 or 9 o'clock position) of the pipe? I was thinking that I could tip the head up as much as possible to keep any water from getting in the power head in the event of a leak.

Thanks for any help.

HI,

Its a two position head placement.

The body can be placed in any position. Upside down if thats your fancy.....

That's a different zone valve though Mike...
This is the one he's installing:

Why not use a Honeywell valve? Lower profile, would probably fit.

Which WR valve are you replacing? Four wires?

Yes it's a four wire WR valve. Pretty much the same as a honeywell V8043 E 1012.
The reason that I want to use the taco valve is that I already have 3 of them. Got a really good deal on them. Didn't see that there could be an install problem till I looked at the documentation.

Trooper I see the mounting position but IMO what would be the difference if on a horizontal with a 45 degree twist?

I see no internal mechanisms that would warrant this. Expecept for possible water hammer?

But who knows......

The only problem I can see is the internal structure of the valve. There is a low slot on the inlet and a high slot on the discharge which makes it very easy to pass air through it. If it is turned it would make it harder to pass air. Is it enough to be a problem?
