20 yr old peerless 06 mi gas boiler will not fire.

Hello, My boiler has a glow ignitor. the first thing that happened is this. the call for heat would ignite the explosively.. stay on and would not reignite unless rest....I was told by a tech to clean the manifold, burners and firebox... I did this.... now the call for heat makes the ignitor glow but it goes out with out firing. the control module is a white rogers 50e47-843 the module led flashes red after trying... The instructions say to test mv1 and mv2 for 24 v at the module and the valve. It does not read more than .38 v... the l1 has 120 v ... I was going to switch the module out.. but a tech told me it might be something else and dont waste the money. I am stumped... please help... can i test the module some other way off of the boiler?

Do you have the instruction booklet for the control?

I'm with your tech... likely something else.

If it was lighting 'explosively'... how long has this been going on? Just one time? or for a while?

Have you checked all the safety controls, such as your 'blocked vent switch', and your 'Flame Rollout Switch' ?

Please answer all the questions:

Do you have the manual for your boiler?

This may be newer than yours, but I would think mostly the same.

Do you know how to read and interpret electrical diagrams?

How well do you know how to use your multimeter? Are you familiar with the OHMS or CONTINUITY functions?

Tell us the make and model of the installed gas valve.
