Oil burning boiler not shutting down

I have an oil burning boiler that keeps turning on and heating even though the the t-stat temp is reached. I removed the t-stat to check the batteries and the boiler and heat kicked on while it wasn't attached. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Yes. Not enough information!

Tell us the make and model of the boiler.

Tell us what AQUASTAT is installed on the boiler.

Tell us how domestic hot water is produced in your home.

Tell us if you have lived with this system long enough to know that this is a NEW PROBLEM, and not something that has been going on for some time.
