steam heating pipeline valve

Hi,
I am new to this forum as well as I am new home owner. I have very few knowledge about steam heating system.
my question is:
at the basement, there is heat pipeline and there are 3 air valves (straight valves).
when boiler is running, the air coming out from the valve a lot (very strong) and make a lot of noise.
i can even hear that from first floor.
is this normal? this is the first time i am running this boiler.
i am just worrying something might happen to the system.

Thanks In advance. and excuse me if there is any mistake or i don't explain well.

the valve is something like that:

Thanks again.

That link is to a private site that we don't have permission to view. It sounds like you have a valve with leaking packing. Could be an old valve. Nothing will explode but it sounds like you are losing valuable steam from it. Is it possible to take a picture and post it here for us to see.

Thanks, PJ. Yes, the valves are old that's for sure. I'll take the picture of them and post it here tomorrow. didn't know that you won't be able to view the outside link.

Thanks again.

Those valves may be 'vents' that allow the air out of the pipe ahead of the steam. When steam hits them they should close. You may have to replace those vents.

Those are vents as NJ Trooper mentioned. They get calcified from the minerals in the water and don't seal correctly. They are going to need to be replaced.
