Can I replace iron radiator supply piping with PEX

I wish to minimize the overhead iron piping to the radiators in my basement area apartment for appearance and headroom purposes. The system is on its own circulator pump circuit. Can i replace trhe iron piping with PEX thread through the ceiling joists?

Ordinary PEX can't be used for hot water heating - you need the type with an oxygen barrier, which might not be available at the home centers. PEX isn't threaded - you will need threaded adapters.

You might want to wait until spring in case you run into problems.

Since you have used the word " ...apartment... " we have to ask:

Are you the OWNER of the property?

And I have to concur with gilmorrie that this is NOT a project you want to start now. Major modifications to heating systems are SPRING SUMMER FALL work, NOT Winter!
