Some basic heating questions
Hello everyone!
I just bought my first house and having some heating issues.
It's a tankless hot water baseboard system. The boiler is a Burnham boiler and the aquastat is Honeywell. I'm not home and not sure of the model of either of these.
The problem is that the heat seems to take a while to get to temperature. For instance at 5am I have the temperature set to go to 70 after having it down to 62 for the night. It takes 3 hours to get to 66 degrees. The heat at the baseboard is minimal. I need to put my hand on the baseboard to feel it.
The aquastat is set at 180, perhaps a bit higher.
The house appears to be well insulated, with a few minor drafty spots. The windows are pretty much all new thermal windows.
On the boiler, there is one circular pump, but there are two zones. The second floor circular pump is rather far from the boiler and it appears to be opening correctly. After calling for heat on the second floor, this zone value seems to be opening as it should.
I cannot seem to find the first zone value. The basement is partially finished and I have a feeling they finished over it. Is there a way to determine if I have a zone value issue without being at the zone value to check it it's opening or not?
Thank you,
-Brian

We do want to know the boiler model. Take a look when you get home and let us know.
You say that there are two pumps, AND zone valves? That's a bit odd, because usually if there is a pump for each zone, there are no zone valves.
If you can take a series of photos of your system it may help us help you. Please make sure the pics are well lighted, in focus, and large enough for us old dudes to see. If you upload to the forum directly they will get resized and may not be of much use to us. Therefore, I would rather you upload them to Photo and image hosting, free photo galleries, photo editing | Photobucket and provide a link to your PUBLIC photo album.
Also, please find the PRESSURE/TEMPERATURE gauge on the boiler and tell us the readings that you see on BOTH needles.

Thank you NJ Trooper. I'll get that all together and post it when I get home.
BTW, I see one circular pump and know where one zone value is. The question is whether or not another zone value exists and if the previous home owner finished (partially finished basement) over it.
Appreciate the help!

First, I feel the need to correct the terminology...
Not " circular " pump, but CIRCULATOR pump, because it circulates the water in the system.
You wrote:
And I suspect that this isn't what you meant to type...
Did you mean to say:
" The second floor ZONE VALVE is rather far from the boiler ... " ?
This is what made me think that you have more than one pump...
So please clarify and explain before we continue.
