Expansion tank

I bought a spiro therm air eliminator, it's a vertical threaded. Problem is the expansion tank is in the way to screw it on. Can I just unscrew the tank, put the spiro therm on an then screw the tank back on? Or is there something special about taking the expansion tank off?
thanks
tim

Sure, you can remove the tank, but unless you have the necessary valving, you will have to first depressurize the system. While the system is depressurized, check the air pressure in the bladder, and pump it up to 12 psi with a bike pump. They naturally lose air over time.

The air eliminator doesn't have to be mounted right smack dab over the tank. Might be better to find another place for it in the system.

Hi Tim,

I'm confused... the expansion tank threads onto the bottom of the spirotherm, correct?

Did you install the tank onto the spirotherm before installing it?

Something tells me that you bought a USED spirotherm that already has the tank attached?

If so, then yes, just unscrew the tank...

Take a pic... let us see... get better answers

It's a new spiro therm. It's a vertical spiro therm jr, so you can't put the tank on the bottom. With my 3 zoned piping the only spot to put the spiro therm in is right next to the expansion tank ( not enough room to turnthe spiro on)

Is 12 lbs standard to pump in? Should I drain all the water out( if so does the system fill it back with water once it is installed?) to depressors the system I just just it off right?

Once we see the pix, we can better advise you. To depressurize the system, shut the stop valve between the city water and the boiler's automatic fill valve, and open the boiler drain.
