Can someone tell me where the best place to locate the feed for a hot water boiler (supply side, return side, near boiler, away from boiler, etc.,).

The best place to supply the boiler feed water to the system is at the "Point Of No Pressure Change".
It's just not that simple a question to answer, although it would seem so... there's always more to a simple question than meets the eye.
