Installing a Tekmar 256 control into a Honeywell L8148A Aquastat

I purchased a Tekmar 256 Boiler controller a few years ago and am just getting around to installing it. I understand the electrical connections but need to figure out how this device would be wired into the Honeywell L-8148 Aquastat. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or info on how it's done?

Alan, it might be easier to wire it to the burner.

Does your boiler use a Beckett burner?

No, it's a Honeywell atmospheric gas burner.

With an 8148A ? odd...

what is the make and model of the boiler ?

It's a Crown CXE-3. It's been surprisingly efficient but I'm hoping the Tekmar controller will add to it.

OK, I understand now why they are using the 8148A ...

Let me ask another question...

Is your system 'zoned'? more than one thermostat?

The system has 3 zones controlled by Honeywell V4043 motorized valves. Sorry about the delayed response. I get pulled in many directions in a weeks time!! As for interfacing the Tekmar 256 into my Honeywell L8148A I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for the L8148A so I can figure out how to connect the Tekmar. I'm hoping someone has done this before, perhaps many times?!

I've reviewed the L8148 wiring diagram. It appears the best place to interface the Tekmar 256 is by inserting it into the upper limit control.

The L8148* installation manual has internal wiring diagrams.

You don't mean V 8 043 ?

I've reviewed the L8148 wiring diagram. It appears the best place to interface the Tekmar 256 is by inserting it into the upper limit control.
I tend to agree.

You can wire the Tekmar terminals 5 & 6 in SERIES with either of the wires on the top of the high limit block in the aquastat (these are labeled as B and R).

You will need a source of 24VAC to power the 256 also, on terminals 8 & 9, and also a jumper from terminal 7 to 8 to establish a 'demand'. Unfortunately, there is no place in the 8148A that you can obtain the 24VAC to run the 256, so you will need another small transformer to power it. I'm pretty sure you could 'get away with' a small 'wall wart' transformer plugged into an outlet for that purpose. The current draw is VERY low. Just make sure you get one that is 24VAC and not VDC.
