Heating Newbie - First time home buyer with questions
As the cold weather rolls in. This will be the first winter in my newly purchased Coop. As a first time home buyer I have a few questions.
We have an older style heating system which features in wall heating. The building has a boiler which heats each unit and I noticed that some rooms have a knob sticking out and some dont.
Heres some pictures. One of the living area with the vent cover off. One of the kitchen with the vent cover on and no exposed knob. The knob up top allows the flap to be closed or open but thats it. Both heaters are ice cold. The one in the bedroom has an exposed knob which we can turn on and off and that one is warm/hot...
My question is, how do I control the heating? Is each radiator independent and how do I use the ones with no exposed knobs?
Any help is appreciated thank you

Congrats on the new home.
If I'm not mistaken.... both of those radiators should be hot. That knob only changes the airflow thru the enclosure and radiator.
Actually, you mention three radiators but there are only two pics. Still, they should all be hot.

Those metal covers have metal dampers controlled by that knob, usually attached be a chain. Over the years as the chains broke or people just didn't want to fuss with them anymore they removed them so don't get nervous if there not there.
As PJ said though they should all be hot. They may have manual air vents you may have to bleed unless you have shutoff valves for each one that may be closed.

Thanks, I think my question is, some of them have exposed valves and some of them dont. When I shine a flash light inside the vent slots I can see what looks to be like a black twist knob/valve?
Heres another pic of one in another room. This is one of the only rooms that has it showing (bottom right corner) - This one is warm
Heres the kitchen, notice no valve. This one is cold

Those are the valves that let the water into the heaters. If the other ones are inside you'll have to take the covers off if they're closed to turn them on. It looks like somebody cut some of the cover for that one.
The covers may be a little hard to get off do to paint. Sometime they have screws and sometime they lift up and pull out from the bottom but they do open up.
Good Luck.

Hi, thanks.
I did mean Co-Op and I will call the maintenance office, but I like to learn as well. Thats why I was posting pictures and asking how this should be fixed.
I cant figure out why only 2 of the 5 radiators have an exposed valve that I can turn on and off, and the rest are compeltly covered by the vent cover...
