Contractor turned down boiler maintainance??? Huh?????? Soot issue????

I was called today to a boiler call. LWCO burnt out and contractor said the system iss too complicated and they will not work on it... The women of the house said they could not figure it out an refused to work on the system...

IMO its just crazy that there are licenced plumbers that dont have a clue..

This is a radiant down and baseboard upstairs system.. ( Also a seperate A/C system...)

Well I changed the LWCO and wired it in, I also recharged the exp tank. After 10 yrs it had 1 psi in it...

I did not have an AAV on me but will go back to replace...

Also I cleaned the boiler and it was odd to me there was sooting in the chamber. I checked the gas pressures and was at the 3'5" WC... Right on spec

This I will try to figure this out on the sooting, but anyone have ideas let me know... I am a bit concerned....

And this is what I get stuck behind going on the island... After sandy most are doing pre fabs...

Makes my trip 1 hour longer as there is no way to get around them with all the construction and single lanes.

Yeah those M&M guard dogs with the plastic housing are notorious for shorting out.
I notice the laundry sink, is there a dryer in the room too? Soot might be from lint being pulled in from a leaky dryer vent. Also noticed that circulator hanging down instead of horizontal...not good for the circ. The pump with the cartridge facing up is not as bad but should still be on the horizontal.

Yeah, first thing I noticed too... pump mounted wrong.

contractor said the system iss too complicated and they will not work on it
That's sad... real sad... at least they knew their limitations and didn't F it all up.

Soot might be from lint being pulled in from a leaky dryer vent.
Or lack of adequate combustion air.

I am not a plumber like you are Mike but I think NJTrooper makes a good point maybe there isn't enough draft going up the chimney and it wasn't made right. It happened to us with our rental house they had carbon monoxide in the house. The contractor installed a blower fan and no more problems. Could be other problems too though like maybe a blocked chimney maybe a critter like a raccoon died inside the chimney.

The soot

I had an experience with a water [steam] leak in a boiler that caused sooting, and the boiler ultimately had to be replaced.
