Chimney vent to direct vent

I have a Weil McLain HE-4 that vents up an old chimney. I'd like to move the boiler system to the corner of the basement. The manual shows that it can be direct vented (page 8 in the link below). Is there any reason I couldn't change the boiler to direct vent? Also, the manual says I should use 3" galvanized vent pipe. Do you think that still meets code?

Thanks in advance.

If the manual says you can do it, I don't see any reason why not.

I would probably use the expensive stainless vent pipe in any case...

Your local building department should be able to advise you on what is allowable in your local jurisdiction, and you should pull permits and have it inspected. Never wise to leave homeowner insurance claims subject to rejection for lack of permitting. Happenz......
