Need some help with a indirect hot water tank

Hey guys just cleaned my boiler and I wanted to flush out my indirect hot water tank to see if there was any scale in the tank. There was not. I only took out about 4 gals. Of a 35 gal. Tank. It's a Burnham tank. Now it will not stop dripping out the drain. Yes it's closed. The tanks only two years old. Should I try to drain the whole tank down until it's dry then close the shout off, off? Or is there a part I can run out and buy that screws onto the end of the drain spicket? Like a cap or something like that?

I cleaned the boiler last night and everything was fine. It started dripping after my wife and I took a shower this morning . I put a container under the drain. In about 12 hours there was about 14 to 18 oz of water. No idea why it decided to start leak after it called for hot water.

Hi Mike,

That's the problem with those cheap azz valves... is it a PLASTIC one by any chance?

You can get a brass hose cap at HD or Lowes...

but what MIGHT happen after you put the cap on is that it will start leaking from around the valve stem. It might NOT, but it MIGHT.

It might eventually stop dripping all by itself also.

Best solution is to replace the drain valve with a BALL VALVE.

Hey trooper

Yep its a plastic valve. I can feel how crappy it is when I turn it.

Ok thanks I'll try the cap just for now. I'll plan on getting new ball valve.

Dose it just unscrew I figure, the drain, and the new one screws on or is it need to be sweated on?

It's threaded... I believe it's 3/4" ...

BUT... the valve may break when you go to unscrew it.

Go here and scroll down to the heading " The Sediment " for more info about replacing the valve:
