Heatmaker II trouble, burning up my transformer

I have a Heatmaker II, about 20 years old, I have had to learn how to replace igniters, pressure switch, and many other things, generally I have been happy with this boiler. My problem is that the unit has now started to cause the transformer to fail. Has anyone had such a problem, what might cause the problem, and how to fix it? Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Transformers fail when the wiring shorts out or they are overloaded.

What size was the transformer that failed ? It will be stamped on it in va.
How many zone valves do you have and are they attached to the same transformer ?

I would suggest putting an automotive in line 5 amp fuse to protect the transformer .

Protecting a transformer with a fuse is a great idea but the transformer can still fail with a short and a 5A fuse inline. I'd recommend a 4A fuse or even 3A if the load is light.

I have always used a 5 amp , but the smallest fuse that will carry the load makes sense .

I usually use a 3 amp fuse with no issue.
