Think I pretty much blew up my central wood boiler...

I burned some stuff in my wood boiler with it winterized....(drained of water)...don't ask me what I was thinking...was thinking it was just like a big chiminea with the water drained...anyway, there was a loud boom, something up near the roof caught fire, and the paint peeled off the exterior in several spots... any idea of the extent of the damage...how much to fix, approx. .......sigh

Welcome to the forums.

I'd imagine the boom you heard was the boiler tank exploding or rupturing.
Not sure why the top of the chimney would catch fire.

I'd say you definitely overheated it. Might have busted a weld open.

Best to call Central, they would be in the best position to advise on whether or not it can be repaired.

Probably a creosote fire in chimney. They can be quite hot and explode as you described.
Time for a full safety check by qualified professional before heating season begins.
Fess up and tell them what you told Forum.
