Pressure Reducing Valve - Lock Nut

Hello all,

I have a B&G pressure reducing valve on my system - the kind where you need to loosen the lock nut before you adjust the screw to adjust pressure. Just my luck, I went to adjust yesterday and the lock nut is fairly stripped. I have tried oiling it up but cannot get it to budge whatsoever. Can I just (carefully) cut off the old nut and just throw on a new 13mm lock nut to replace?

Did you try vise grips??

A small monkey wrench will work too..

vise grips did the trick (a little oil and heat didn't hurt either). thanks!

I guess there is an issue on why you are adjusting the pressure???

Piping questions for hot water boiler install

My questions are on the piping for a “modern” installation. I have a two-zone system with balancing valves and one circulator. There's a piping diagram of what I'm planning at [url]https://www.dropbox.com/s/qkgdw7yldwd9uh1/ES2-4-Install.jpg?dl=0[/url] that's based on the “Recommended Water Piping” diagram in the Burnham installation manual. Questions: 1 – Air scoop on the supply side: I imagine this could be a Taco Air Scoop (with one of their air vents)? 2 – What about the air vent on the return side? Would that be a Taco Hy-Vent or similar installed in a tee or is this something entirely different? 3 – Purge valve on the supply – is this simply a 3/4” boiler drain installed in a tee? 4 – Do I need any more (or any fewer) valves and such? Hi. I have a 40+ year old boiler system that has 4 zones and two circ. pumps. I recently reconfigured the piping on the further most upstairs level of my house which added 6 liner feet to the zone. Because my system is tied into an outdoor wood boiler, I have HVAC anti-freeze in the system. So after I completed my pipe work on the upstairs zone I pumped in approximately 3 new gallons of antifreeze (plus what I recovered of the old stuff) into the zone by use of a boiler drain in the basement that is attached to the upstairs zone. I recently fired up my boiler and attempted to verify no leaks of coolant in the upstairs zone but can't seem to get the coolant to go all the way around and back. Unfortunately I did not install any air bleeds on the upstairs zone because I assumed I could use the boiler drain in the basement to purge the line. So I'm not sure what's happening at this point. I think I may have some other components that are bad needed to ask for some advice. Starting with the air bleeds I have in the basement. Are they supposed to leak coolant? I currently have caps on the shrader valves but everytime I remove them I get some air followed by a flow of antifreeze. Also, my expansion tank air pressure level hasn't been checked in several years so I'm sure that needs attention. Any initial thoughts?Read More
