Hot water heating zone intermittent (acting weird)

I have a hot water heating system – one zone is acting weird. Had a problem last year with no heat, but it somehow resolved itself. Two weeks ago, we had too much heat for a few days and then that, too, resolved itself. This week, no heat. Thermostat seems to work and when thermostat calls for heat, I can feel the circulator (Taco 007) turn on. I’d appreciate anyone’s thoughts on the cause. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

Usually the thermostat opens the zone valve and the zone valve tells the circulator to start.
It sounds like the valve is opening if you hear the pump start but it needs to be physically checked by checking the manual operation lever.

If it moves easily... the valve is open.
If it's hard to move.... the valve is not open.

We need to know more about your system there.

I did some further research and reading and came to the conclusion it's likely the flow valve at the start of the zone heating loop. I saw a suggestion to tap it (gently) with a hammer which might knock some crude loose... Lo and behold, that worked and the loop is now working as it should. I'll get it replaced once we get to the end of the heating season. Thanks for the reply Pete!
