Weil Mclain boiler not heating second floor

Hello Guys,

I hope I can get some help, my background; 26 years old, just bought my first house I am yet to move in because I am running through to ensure that all the fundamentals work properly, such as heat, bathrooms etc.

The house is equipped with a Weil McLain Series 1 Boiler, its up an running fine except it is only heating the first floor; the base board radiators upstairs doesn't get hot, I opened the bleeding valve on each radiator to see if air/water is circulating, and they both bled for awhile with hissing sounds and water gushing out, the day after I noticed that the boiler still isn't pumping water into the radiators upstairs, so thats when I took a pause and decided to get help.

Another issue I noticed is that the BackFill Valve is pushing out water when I leave the main water feed to the boiler open, so at this point I turned it off until I get some answers.

Thanks a lot guys

The picture with the arrow is where the water is gushing out the back flow valve; the part that marks "Vent" - When I turn the main water source off, then it stops.

Welcome to the forums.

Looks like you'll need a new gauge there as the pressure hand has either come loose and moved or you're running over 100psi. The red pointer is just a movable pointer.

You need to know the pressure so you may want to pickup a test type to see where your pressure is currently at. Pressure Gauge-91130 - The Home Depot

Thank You PJmax, I didn't even realize that the black hand is what I should be using. I will get a new gauge from home depot tomorrow. Any thoughts on the other 2 issues ?

Did you check to see if both the zone valves were opening. There is a lever on them for manual operation. With both stats calling for heat they should be open. That means the manual levers should be loose and slide easily.

When the zone is off..... the lever will have resistance against it and will be hard to move manually.

Just an update. we replaced the whole 911 and the water isn't leaking anymore. Now, I am only left with the issue where the boiler isn't circulating water on the second floor, is it possible that I might have a frozen pipe ?any suggestions ? thanks in advance

Could have a frozen pipe sure... Are there drafty areas where the heating pipes are exposed?

You could have low boiler pressure too.. Dont know since the gauge is broken...
