How to heat second floor only, vacant first floor

Hello All,

I have a steam boiler system for a two family home. There is only one thermostat and one boiler. This winter, the bottom floor will be vacant and i dont want to pay for the heat to be on full down there. My plan is to put the thermostat upstairs in my apartment, open all the valves in my apartment, and then close all but two of the valves in the bottom apartment. My thought process is that the closed radiators on the first floor will assist with building the pressure up to the second floor and keep my apartment hot, while the bottom floor will stay cool (55 degrees or so). Is this a good plan? Any comments would be appreciated, thanks.
