so is the baseboard open or closed

Hi
kinda dumb but
pic #2 I presume this is "open"
pic #1 I presume this is "closed" but
pic #1 does not seem closed all the way (and will go no further)
so is "closed" not really closed all the way
thank you

e,
The top metal bar (damper) is suppose to swivel and completely close off the fins to eliminate air flow thus stopping the heat to the room.

The dampers may not be installed correctly unless you have a type of baseboard that does not allow full closure, although I've never seen one, but that doesn't mean much.

The dampers usually just snap into a bracket that holds the front panel and damper.

Maybe in that brand of baseboard pic #2 is what they consider closed. Just a guess.

You can check to see if it's installed correctly.

To answer your question, in neither pictures are the dampers closed.

Hope this helps a little.

thanks
then I think
pic #2 is open
pic #1 is "closed" and they do not close all the way
if I push them down further, they snap off the brackets
these are Embassy baseboards, 7 ¾" high
installed long long ago
thanks

It's not close in either picture but it looks like the top one is blocking off 1/2 the heat. That may be closed all it goes.... 1/2 way or open.
