All zone valve's won't close, one thermostat turns on heat

Hello, i have 4 zones in my home. Last year they all worked perfect. Now I turn on the living room heat, all the zones heat. If I call for heat from any other zone, nothing happens at all. I noticed all the zones get heated when the living room is on because none of the valves are closed. Usually when I turn off the whole system all the valves will open then when I turn on the system they all close until heat is called for, now when I turn in the system none close, they all just stay open. I removed them and made sure the actual paddle wasnt stuck, they were some but they loosened as I played with them. What would cause none of them to close at all? Or if they were all bad, why does only one zone cause the heat to come on but none of the other zones will call for heat? Thanks

M,
First off what kind of zone valves do you have that when there is no power they open up. It's usually the opposite, being that it takes power to open them and when the power is off they are closed.

Pics would be good if possible of the ZV's and wiring if possible.

Your questions are a little hard to answer without more info.

If only one stat operates on a call for heat with the info given it's because only 1 stat is operating properly and none of the zone valves which is telling me there is a common denominator somewhere and not the individual components.

Just my thoughts. Hope this helps a little.

Welcome to the forums.

Yes.... pictures are needed as that is not how most zone valves operate.
A model of the zone valve would also be helpful.
