sand/cement ratio

Hello, I'm going to be laying Belguim block down my driveway on a concrete base and tapped to level with a mallet. I need to know how much sand to use in the mix??? Is 2 to 1 concrete to sand good or should it be even??? I will use the same mix for the joints. I also need to shore up my patio a little bit, can I use the same mix there??? Thanks in advance for your help!!! Eric

Okay, here is an easy way to determine the concrete mix ratio,

1/2 bag of 94 lb portland common cement, (common cement has no lime added)

10 shovels of sand
12 shovels of gravel

mix in wheel barrow or 1/3 sack mixer, adding water until a shovel can easily be drawn through the mix.

for the joints between the block you need to use mortar, here is the mix,

1/2 sack plastic cement, (common cement with lime added)
12 shovels of sand
mix with water to a firm consistancy

There you go, it's not rocket science!
