Retaining wall w/steps (interlocking block)

Anyone have a good link that shows the "look" or any other info on incorporating a set of steps into a retaining wall? In other words, I'd like to make the actual steps out of the same material as the interlocking retaining wall blocks.

What mix to use?

Continuing the "Concrete, Brick, Stone steps?" thread, we (or rather, I ;) ) have decided to go ahead with poured concrete faced with faux stone: ([url]http://www.alluriam.com/brochure_pg_15.htm[/url] ) and I have gotten to this point: [url]http://www.rosehawke.com/photos/steps2.jpg[/url] I've run into a bit of a problem. See this detail: [url]http://www.rosehawke.com/photos/stepsdetail.jpg[/url] I'm going to need to level out the "old" fake stone and bring the top 10-12" or so of the concrete block to the same level (which would be about a 2" thick layer slathered on there.) I *tried* chipping the old "stone" off and it ain't coming! I just hope I can get the new stuff to stick that well! What mix of "mud" should I use for this application? I'm assuming a bit different from just plain pre-mix morter mix? Can I get away with "richening" it a bit with some Portland and throwing some latex additive in it for good measure? I would like to get this done this week as we are planning on pouring the steps this coming weekend. Thanks!Read More
