Smile building a dry stone wall

This migh not be the right forum but it`s all I could find..I`m planning on building a dry stone wall in the front of my house and the guestion I have is about the slope of the ground. My property slopes right to left and it slopes from 1 foot to approx. 3 feet. Do I need to dig a trench the length of the wall and build the wall lthree feet high the whole length to keep the wall level even though 2 feet will be buried at te high part....or is there a way to teir it ...Thanks for any replies , Jim
