advice on how to build surround for vent free fireplace

how to make a fireplace surround
Is there anyone out there that knows how to build a fireplace surround? This surround will be used with vent free gas logs. I could buy the insert but it just does not look like it goes with the style of the house. I have some experience with masonry, I would rather make the surround with fire tiles then with bricks, any edvice on what other material to use behind the tiles? Thank you for your advice.

What is it that you need to know? Those sites seemed to cover: information of a general nature, some caveats of ventless fireplaces, and how to construct the surround.
Do you have the fireplace?
Has it been installed?
Do you need to construct the framing for the fireplace itself and build the enclosure or just install the material for the surround?
Is this an existing room or under construction?
Do you have a building permit for this installation?
The surround is basically the surfacing material around the opening for the fireplace. The structure of the framing for the fireplace and the walls is different.
It appears that we are not talking about the same thing.
