Repair concrete steps leading down to basement

I am a new homeowner who knows NOTHING about home repairs. My problem is that I have a walk up basement with concrete steps that are leaking and flooding my basement when a heavy downpours occurs. I have found a crack at the top of the steps. I used my water hose and find out that steps leak in about 3 places when water pools at the top of the steps (actually on the ground next to the steps). I am needing any information as to how to fix the existing steps without having to replace them entirely. There is a drain at the bottom of the steps which I had snaked out today which will solve the problem with the flooding in my basement, but I need to correct problem with steps and the walls.

when water pools at the top of the steps
Direct the water away, and regrade to prevent its collection here. This will solve the problem the same way as any other by removing the source of the problem: the standing water.

Hope this helps.

My entire back yard slopes down hill. My house is built on the side of a hill.

The slope should make the drainage solution simple, then.
