Expansion Joints

I have a 7 year old home that the fiber board that the builder used for the expansion joints is breaking up and coming out of the crack. My concern is that water flows into these cracks and might wash out the bed supporting the concrete. Last year, I used some tublar foam in the crack and used some ruberized cault to fill in the rest of the crack (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep). The caulk I believe was advertised for crack repair. Is this the proper way to do this and will it last?

Thanks,
Ken Nicholson

Yes, it is the right product; and it should have a reasonable life.
