stain mortar?

Is there any way to apply a stain to mortar? 75% of the mortar on the front of my brick house is charcoal gray, with one portion that was replaced and they used beige mortar--sticks out like a sore thumb. I do not want to hire a tuckpointer, so is there anything I can do myself? All mortar appears in good condition.

Mortar is porous so it will take a stain. There are concrete stain and paint products on the market. It may be tricky trying to have one area match the other, but life is filled with challenges. Don't get any on the bricks, they stain well, too.
