Cement Garage Floor????

I repaired the cement floor of my garage where the garage door meets, unfortunately it is too high and the garage door does not close properly.
I now have to break up the cement and redo it. Any suggestions on how to break up the cement?

Enlarging Window Opening

My foundation is cinder block and the basement is a walk-out. The only windows in it are several hopper-style that are about 32x16. What I want to do is remove one of these and enlarge the opening vertically so I can install a double-hung window. The opening won't be any wider, so there's no concern about needing to replace the lintel block. What I'm not sure of is how to finish the ends of the blocks after I cut the opening, so the inside of the opening is smooth all around.Read More

Walkway paver joints: Sand or sand + mortar?

I installed a paver walkway (18" sq pavers) about 4 yrs ago that was just bedded in sand. Since the walkway was on a slight incline, most of the sand ended up in the alley! This time I'm trying to do it right, I put down "paver base" + 1"~2" sand and set the pavers. I left about 3/8" space for a mix of sand and mortar inthe joints. My book says to fill in the joints with the dry mix, tamp it down, sweep off the excess and then spray with a hose to set. Now that I'm at this last step, I'm having second thoughts, should I go with just the tamped sand joints? I live in Minnesota so the freeze thaw cycle is excessive, plus what a mess to clean up if it doesn't work! Any advice? Thanks in advance!Read More
