shoring up foundation

we have bought a "fixer upper"- that's an understatement-the foundation is concrete block. We need to shore up the foundation and get it level-the middlle of the house is sagging. Need some help even hiring someone to do the work (how much is this going to cost). Location: north central florida

Houses with obvious foundation problems are best evaluated by a structural engineer who can guide you in the corrective steps to be taken.

What is the white fuzzy stuff on my foundation block?It is on most of the block around my garage. It looks like it is actually eroding the block on the outside. When you put water on it, it melts right away. What do I do about this? Any help please.......Read More

Concrete foundation crack

Had a contractor cut out a section of my outside 8 inch thick lower concrete foundation wall for a double door to the basement. When the hole was cut, a large crack (about 1/2 thick) formed above and to the side of the cutout which went straight through inside and out. It also appears to have moved slightly inward above where the hole was cut (maybe an 1/8 of an inch) which I believe was caused when they pushed the cut-out section inward catching the top of the foundation. The contractor said that this was normal and would not effect the house in any way. He filled the cracks with a concrete sealer and said it would be fine. There is about 2 feet of concrete header above, with the cutout for the door that has not been installed yet spanning approximately 8 feet. Should I be concerned about this???Read More
