Question How to remove mortar from cultured stone?

Hi,

I had a fireplace intalled last year with cultured stone. The guy that installed it slopped some mortar onto the stone. Now he is gone, and I'm left with trying to remove the mortar. Is there an easy way to do this with out damaging the stone?

The mortar is pretty much set. You can try chipping off the large amounts that may be there, then scrub the smears and residue with TSP and a brush. Wear protective clothing and protect the surrounding area.

Hope this helps.

Yep, pretty much you will want to try and remove the bulk with a sharp scraper. I like a Painters 5 in 1 tool. Like you mention keep a close eye on the stone that you are not scratching it so that it looks bad.
