Gravel turnaround for driveway

I'm wanting to put in a gravel turnaround off of our driveway in our side yard. Anybody have any idea how deep I need to dig down to lay the gravel? Any other tips for this process would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hawk

I would go down 4 - 6 inches and use crusher run instead of gravel. Crusher run will pack while gravel stays loose.

Hope this helps.

4-6 depending on your soil, if your soil is really wet 6 would be better. You can use 2A modified stone, this consists of all different sizes of stone and packs extremely well. To get the stone to pack really nice, use a soaker hose to saturate the stone and then roll it with a lawn roller or even a garden tractors back tires.

Thats what 2A looks like once its packed down:

I think you both posted the same answer.
In NY its called Item4 or shouder stone.
Each locality has a differant name for it.
