Exclamation can i drill into flagstone?

i have a flagstone slab over the base of an old fountain.

i want to drill a 2 inch diamater hole to put an umbrella through it and sliding into the heavy concerete fountain base.

if i drill a round hole, will it split in two?

if not, what kind of drill/bit do i need?

Whether or not it splits will depend upon the thickness of the stone and the presence of any hidden flaw. Thin stone may be more likely to crack. If there is a hidden crack or stress point in the stone, it may crack there. You might check a tool rental place for a bit large enough to drill stone. It will probably be a hole saw bit.

Hope this helps.
