Basement concrete

We recently had some plumbing work done on a basement bathroom. The plumber had to dig through the concrete to find a pipe and clear it. When he finished the job, he poured concrete to cover the pipe. I am now trying to lay tile on the bathroom floor, but the repair concrete is either too high or too low. I need it to be about 1/4 " below my new tile to install correctly. Any suggestions?

Jim Comstock,

You could break out a chisel and hammer and use a floor patch to level it out.

Or get it fairly level and then let your thinset take care of imperfections. It becomes a choice of do it one way or the other.

Good Luck!
