Unhappy Re-doing walkway

Hello.

I'm new to this forum and I must say it is great!!

Ok, here's my situation. My current walkway is a mess. I have a lot of grass and weeds growing in between the bricks. My plan of attack is to take out all the bricks and remove all the grass and weeds. Then place back the bricks.

Now my question is, how would I go about preparing the walkway so that this grass and weed growth doesn't happen again? I remember seeing at Home Depot this item where it's a black sheet/cloth that you lay on the ground and it's suppose to help in preventing weed/grass growth. Can someone explain this to me further in how it's suppose to work and how to use it?

Thanks.

What the material is called is landscape fabric. To avoid all that work, I would just spray the walk with RoundUp periodically.

I would love to do that (it'd make everything easier) but there's A LOT of grass and weeds (been neglected). Plus, the person didn't do a great job in the first place so I'd like to re-do it myself the right way and make it all nice and tidy There's nothing more satisfying than seeing the finished product that you put a lot of effort in to
