How to handle walkway/riser expansion joint
Originally I had a cement walkway which abutted a small raised concrete entryway patio. There was an expansion joint between walkway and the patio riser. I demoed the walkway in preparation for flagstone over concrete install. Also, I would like to apply either stone or brick facing to the riser which will be 2-3" thick.
Should I mantain the expansion joint against the riser and thus when I apply the facing to the riser it will overhang the expansion joint? Of course I will have to hold the bottom of the facing slightly above the new patio. I could fill the gap with caulk for appearance. The temp does not go below freezing where I live.
Seems like this is the best alternative for mantaining the expansion joint and concealing it at the same time.
Thanks

Sounds like you have covered the bases. The walkway will behave different from the rise, so a joint is in order. Since you don't have freezing/frost problems the walkway will only go down and not be heaved up from frost.
Good soil compaction, base preparation and drainage wil minimize settling.
