how do i do stone facing on a wall

ok, i want to take flat flagstone, about 1-3 inches thick and glue it to the walls of my house as siding. what do i use for glue/cement? are there tricks, or do i just start sticking it up in a pattern that i like?
i guess that shoudl get me the basics and i can ask more details after i get these responses...

I would not glue it on. Costly cinsidering how much you will need to get sufficient contact. Also, some glues do not work well when they are applied thicker than normal.

However you attach it, you should have someting to carry the load. Normally, a steel angle is used at the base of the stone. You will also need some metal ties to prevent it from pulling away.

You should really consider cultured stone because of the difference in weight. Your house can carry the load structurally, but it is easier to work with and has proven methods of attachment to the house.
