Painting concrete block house foundation...

Adding new vinyl siding within next two monthes, differnt color than present siding (red changing to brown). The concrete block foundation is painted red. What steps, type of paint, etc. will we have to take to paint this?

The current paint is not peeling, blistering, etc. and has only one coat on it that we are aware of, applied apx. 15 years ago.

Also, how far below the "dirt" line should we paint?

Any quality exterior paint should work fine - may take 2 coats to cover the red. Since looks is the main reason for painting you only need to paint down far enough so that the unpainted part doesn't show.

Make sure you use a breathing paint (no oil base).

Try to avoid a buildup of too many coats, because even a breathing paint can become a vapor barrier if it is too thick.

If it traps moisture inside it can blow off the paint surface.
